“Do you know what they call a runner after 20 years? A cyclist.
The joke proved to be a reality for me after a long stint as a distance runner in high school, college and in the Marine Corps. Unable to run due to knee and hip issues from all that mileage, I found mountain biking through the insistence of my husband. I swore I would hate it. We went on one ride and I was looking for my own bike.
Of course being on a bike is great exercise, but it’s more than that to me. It’s a form of therapy. It’s a mode of transportation. It’s a means to being part of a fantastic community. It’s a way to see this amazing planet from a whole different perspective. And now, it’s a way to make a big dent in an underserved battle in the fight against breast cancer. We will be fighing in out on the dirt and the roads to support women who are fighting for their lives, and there’s no greater motivation than that.
